Electricity is becoming more expensive as demand rises, especially in the cold winter nights. Here are a few tips to reduce your electricity bill and help conserve energy.
- Lights contribute towards making a house feel welcome and it's easy to get carried away. If you're not using a room then turn off the lights.
- Dimmer lights allow you to dim the light of the room and help save on electricity (and light bulbs).
- Consider using candles when having a dinner party - saves your electricity and can look attractive.
- When using computing equipment - computer, screen, scanner, printer etc. switch off when finished.
- Avoid putting your television or DVD / video devices on standby. This still uses a lot of power.
- Consider using timers which will switch off or on lights at certain times of the day - if you're concerned about security.
- If you're recharging batteries, remove the batteries when they are fully charged and disconnect the battery charger.
- Mobile phones are constantly being charged - Do you need to have your mobile phone switched on when you're at home?
- Disconnect anything which has fully recharged.
- If you have electric heating and constantly change the temperature - consider having the heating on full-time but turned down much lower. It might take a few
days to reach a consistent temperature.
- Electric blankets - consider having a hot water bottle!
