Ableton Live
Not all music creation software is the same and Ableton Live is definitely different from its predecessors. Why? Because the methods used to create are an entirely different method from the usual linear recording and I would describe them as inspirational.
Imagine you are a graphical artist and use a pencil and paper to scribble your ideas. After, you take your ideas to the computer and start building your new design. Well, this is similar to Abletons ideology although the ideas section can be as much as a group of ideas which can be accessed in real-time on-the-fly, while you’re composing or can be a full-blown song.
The concept of jumping from one idea to the other, changing, tweaking sounds, adding fx can all be part of the creation process, much like using the program as an instrument in its own right. Whatever you do in this mode of thinking can be recorded to your final mix!
Included are some great virtual instruments – fully tweakable.
The main beauty of using Ableton Live with dedicated controller hardware is simply standing back from your computer and using the hardware as your interface to control the sequence in live time.
Third parties who are building excellent controllers are Novation, AKAI and Native Instruments.
